As a general rule, a standard system for adult dogs (over six months of age) is a deworming every three months. If a dog owner chooses not to use anthelmintic treatment regularly, a feasible alternative might be to examine feces every three months. In certain specific situations, such as with puppies, young age (less than 6 months) or a kennel environment, more frequent treatment may be helpful and advice from a veterinarian should be sought to establish an appropriate antiparasitic protocol.
